Die Achtziger

„… dies ist kein weiteres Album – es ist die Chronik meiner musikalischen Anfänge in den frühen 80ern. Alles begann ganz bescheiden mit einem Casio-Minikeyboard der VL-Serie. Doch die Leidenschaft war geweckt: Schnell folgten nach einem weiteren Keyboard der erste echte Synthesizer und eine Drum-Machine, bis ich mir Mitte der 80er im Keller meiner Eltern ein eigenes kleines Studio-Reich erschaffen hatte und voll auf der Synthipop-Welle surfte. Ein Meilenstein war mein erster Auftrag für eine Filmmusik: Daraus entstand 1985 mein Debüt-Album, der rein instrumentale Soundtrack zum Film ‚Falkenauge‘. Dank meiner neuen Tätigkeit als selbstständiger Sounddesigner konnte ich mein Setup stetig erweitern und professionalisieren. 1987 folgte der nächste Soundtrack-Auftrag, dessen Kernstücke ich in mein zweites Album ‚High & Low‘ einfließen ließ. Hier öffnete ich den Sound für Gastmusiker an Gitarre und Vocals, während ich selbst zum ersten Mal neben den Synthesizern auch Bass und Mikrofon übernahm. Diese neue Liebe zum Bass führte mich im selben Jahr zu meiner ersten richtigen Band ‚L.A.W.‘. Als Frontmann und Bassist (und gelegentlich am Piano) erlebte ich dort eine ziemlich geile Zeit. Ein komplettes Album schafften wir zwar nicht, aber wir retteten einige ehrliche Proberaum-Aufnahmen auf einem Tascam Porta Two – einen dieser Schätze hört ihr unten im Player. Nach der Auflösung 1988 und verschiedenen Band- & Filmprojekten bis in die frühen 90er ist hier nun der Ort für diese Fundstücke. Ich werde nach und nach weitere Raritäten hochladen – vorausgesetzt, meine alten Audiokassetten lassen mich nicht im Stich! :-)“

But the passion had been ignited: after another keyboard, my first real synthesizer and a drum machine soon followed, until by the mid-80s I had created my own small studio kingdom in the basement of my parents’ house and was riding the synth-pop wave to the full. A milestone was my first commission for a film score: this resulted in my debut album in 1985, the purely instrumental soundtrack to the film ‘Falkenauge’. Thanks to my new work as a freelance sound designer, I was able to steadily expand and professionalize my setup. In 1987 the next soundtrack commission followed, the core pieces of which I incorporated into my second album ‘High & Low’. Here I opened up the sound to guest musicians on guitar and vocals, while for the first time I myself took on bass and microphone in addition to the synthesizers. This new love for the bass led me in the same year to my first proper band, ‘L.A.W.’. As frontman and bassist (and occasionally on piano) I had a pretty awesome time there. We never quite managed to complete a full album, but we did rescue some honest rehearsal-room recordings on a Tascam Porta Two – you can hear one of those gems in the player below. After the breakup in 1988 and various band and film projects into the early 90s, this is now the place for these rediscovered pieces. I’ll gradually upload more rarities – provided my old audio cassettes don’t let me down! :-)”
